2007 Open Space Survey Results: Citizens Responded with Strong Support for Open Space
The Town of Clifton Park through its Open Space, Trails and Riverfront Committee conducted a town-wide open space survey in February 2007. The survey was mailed to all residences – totaling more than 17,000 households. The town received approximately 3,500 responses. Additional responses were received via the town’s website survey. Many responses included written suggestions and recommendations that have been documented. The public comments will continue to be reviewed by the Open Space Coordinator and the Open Space, Trails and Riverfront Committee to help refine recommendations for future actions to the town board.
According to the 2007 survey results, the community is strongly supportive of the open space program in 2007. About 83% of the 3,500 responses received indicated support for the Town of Clifton Park allocating a portion of any future surplus revenues towards open space conservation. A summary of the 2007 results is discussed below.
As many residents may recall, the town had previously conducted two surveys related to the open space plan back in 2002 and 2003. These prior surveys had indicated clear, strong support for the town to implement an open space program. In comparison to the results of the 2002 survey that used mostly the same questions, the residents of Clifton Park responded that they continue to support the town’s open space initiatives. For all but one open space category, the support was either the same or slightly increased from 2002 to 2007. A comparison of the results from the 2002 to the 2007 survey is included within the body of the presentation to the Town Board delivered on May 7, 2007 which is viewable by clicking here: Town Board Update 5-07- Keep it Going!
