The Clifton Park G.R.E.E.N. Committee was established in 2007 by Councilmen Tom Paolucci
and Scott Hughes to address energy use and environmental impacts in all facets of town
government. The committee aims to foster education and community awareness to promote
informed actions that everyone can take to reduce the consumption of our limited natural
resources, both now and in the future.
Since its formation, the G.R.E.E.N Committee has led an effort to improve energy efficiency
in all town buildings. Energy efficient lighting has been installed, motion sensors have been
added and other lighting equipment has been placed. These measures are expected to save the
town thousands of dollars over the next several years, based on an independent audit conducted
by NYSERDA.
The G.R.E.E.N. Committee has also established a light bulb savings calculator accessible
at
http://www.cliftonpark.org/townhall/bulbs/index.asp.
The committee also sponsored the first ever Town Shredding Day, in which residents were
encouraged to bring in any documents they wanted to have safely disposed of. The paper
was shredded for free by 3N Document Destruction and then recycled into other paper products.
Thanks to the G.R.E.E.N. committee, recycling bins for cans and bottles were recently
placed at the Clifton Common.
These are just some of many initiatives that the committee is working on. Anyone with
suggestions on how Clifton Park’s town government can become “more green” is encouraged
to contact Tom Paolucci
or Scott Hughes.
