STAR - SCHOOL TAX RELIEF PROGRAMS
A Basic STAR exemption is available to every property owner who has a primary residence in the Town of Clifton Park and does not have any other type of School Tax Relief Program exemption in another state. Proof of residency needs to be submitted with the Basic Star application. Acceptable forms of proof of residency are a copy of a phone or cable or utility bill or an updated driver’s license. You will only need to submit one initial application for your residence, unless you move to another property in the Town of Clifton Park or change ownership.
An Enhanced STAR exemption is available to all property owners who will be 65 years of age by December 31, 2011, and have an adjusted gross income of $79,050 or less on their 2009 tax return. When submitting the initial Enhanced Star application the 2009 Federal or NY State Income Tax Return and proof of age and residency need to be attached.
The Enhanced Star exemption will need to be renewed each year. There are two options for renewing your Enhanced Star exemption: 1. An Enhanced Star Renewal Form can be submitted with the 2009 Federal or NY State Income Tax Return. If a tax return is not filed, all the 2009 1099’s will need to be submitted. 2. An Income Verification Program form can be completed as long as a NY State Income Tax Return is filed each year. This form can be completed with the initial application or with a renewal application for the ensuing years.
The Basic/Enhanced STAR Exemption form, Income Verification Program form, and the Enhanced Star Renewal Form are available on this website:
