A Stewardship Message

STEWARDSHIP - A WAY OF LIFE AT SAINT GEORGE’S
Stewardship is everything that you do after you have said, “I love God.”

Stew-ard - [stoo-erd, styoo-] a person who manages another's property or financial affairs; one who administers anything as the agent of another or others

Whether Jesus was speaking of the faithful steward in Luke 12 or the unfaithful steward in Luke 16 or those to whom the rich man entrusted the talents in Matthew 25, he was clearly defining a steward as one to whom a superior person – king or rich man or master – has entrusted his wealth and possessions.

God has made us stewards of all creation, and stewardship is nothing more and nothing less than our caretaking of all that we have been given. To understand this, we must start from a position of humble gratitude – all that we have has been given to us for safekeeping, to use for God’s work on this planet. One pastor defines it thus: Stewardship is everything that you do after you have said, “I love God.”

Stewardship involves money, to be sure, but it also involves all that you possess – your time and your talent. We are stewards of this earth and all the creatures on it, including our fellow humans who suffer and struggle around the world, as well as in our own backyard. Stewardship is less about a way of giving than it is about a way of living.

God has given us everything and has told us we can keep 90 percent. That sounds like an offer too good to refuse!

 About St. George's

We are a community of faith that reflects the growth and changes that have taken place in Clifton Park. In 1922 the cornerstone was laid, and church members helped build a small church just East of Route 9. After the construction of Interstate 87, the congregation moved to our current location at 912 Route 146. (1.3 miles West of I-87 exit #9)

We are committed to reaching out in hospitality to our local community - particularly those in need of healing and renewal. Through our Epiphany Fund we offer assistance to children in Southern Saratoga County, whose needs are not met by exisiting social service agencies. Members of the congregation, whom we call Stephen Ministers are trained to be Christian caregivers to members of the congregation, as well as men and women in the community. In our outreach and in all areas we seek to welcome, affirm and offer to God our individual and corporate gifts.

At the same time, Saint George's is part of the Episcopal Church in the USA and the worldwide Anglican communion with sixty million members. We are part of a multi-national, multi-lingual, multi-racial church.

MAINSTREAM - contemporary worship for young people is offered regularly during the school year at St. George's and other Clifton Park community churches. This worship opportunity for youth begins at 6:30 PM. For more information, go to: http://www.myspace.com/32843616
