Tips for Keeping Your Kids Safe Online
The internet is a wonderful tool for everyone in the family. It can
help children do research, homework, projects, or just learn about
technology and the world around them. But keeping kids safe while
they surf can sometimes be an overwhelming task. Here are a few tips
to help you along the way:
1. Get to know the games, services and websites that your
child visits.
2. Set some specific guidelines for computer usage, and after

3. Keep the computer in a family room rather than in a
child's bedroom.
4. Don't immediately blame the child if they receive or
access something obscene - this may have been done accidentally.
5. Be aware of the friends your children make online, Try to
get to know them as you would their other friends.
6. Don't use the PC or the Internet as an electronic
babysitter.
7. It's not at all uncommon for kids to know more about the
Internet and computers than their parents. If that's the case in
your home, you can use this as an opportunity to get involved,

8. Encourage children to tell you about anything they find
that is suggestive, obscene, threatening or makes them feel
uncomfortable.
9. Consider using an internet filtering software, or Content
