Felix and the Worrier
Author: Rosemary Wells
Ages 4 – 7
Felix’s Mama knows all about cozy bedtime rituals: “She gave Felix his Mitey-Vite and made sure all his animals were under the covers.” One thing Mama
doesn’t know; there’s another player here: the Worrier. Looking a lot like a
tiny, yellow, pointy-headed gingerbread man, the Worrier always manages to
dispel Felix’s “clouds of happiness.” The tiny sprite works with small
suggestions – “What about the little black spot on Felix’s tooth? – Also big
ones: “Supposing nobody comes to your birthday party?” There’s a delightful
spin at the end of this tale, when the Worrier gets himself worried out of the
neighborhood. The biggest treat here is recognition of the power of silly
worries and more, the power of those who love us to defeat them. Ink and bright
watercolor illustrations bring this story to life.
