Andrew’s Bright Blue T-Shirt

Author: Jessica Wollman
Illustrator: Ana Lopez Escriva
Doubleday
Ages 3 – 7

On the front of Andrew’s favorite shirt, a hand-me-down of his brothers, is a picture of a soccer ball. He wears it every day, waiting to be big enough to play soccer with the older kids. His teacher even begins calling him Bright Blue Andrew. Andrew doesn’t care. He doesn’t even care when the shirt gets too small and his belly begins to show. He doesn’t care when other kids tease him. Andrew only cares about soccer and practices all the time. The day finally comes when his brother Ernie realizes that Andrew is old enough to play and asks him to join in a neighborhood game. Suddenly the shirt feels tiny and uncomfortable. Andrew rushes home to change; it’s time to move on. A great book about growing up, self-confidence and being prepared when opportunity presents itself.
