President's Message

The Friends of the Library welcome you to our web site.  Summer is upon us and the Friends of the Library invite you to get involved in one of our activities.  Friends of the Library volunteers contribute many hours each year that help to enhance the services available at our wonderful library, our "community center for life-long learning."  There are so many avenues available to library volunteers.  There is our Used Book Sale, our Scholastic Two for One Children's Book Sale; our Hospitality Committee; our Get Out the Vote Committee; our Travel Committee (we have a new travel coordinator and a big trip in 2009); our Newsletter Committee; and our Annual Meeting Committee.  We are also organizing a Communications Committee that will be able to respond effectively with members who do not use e-mail regularly.

The Friends of the Library provide resources to our library that it could not provide out of their budget.  For example, the Friends of the Library provided the funds to: construct the water feature in the Reading Garden; purchase two wheel chairs for patrons in need of assistance; enhance our Multi-media Collection; purchase baskets for patrons to carry their books while in the library; purchase mugs for the FMFF 25th Anniversary Celebration; provide funding for author events (Chris Bojalian (2008), Michael Sullivan and Gordon Korman (2009); and provided funds to help the library community celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the CPH Library.

In addition, in 2008, the Friends of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library established our FOL Community Scholarships to assist deserving students in realizing their educational dreams. One award is given to a Shenendehowa High School student, and one given to a resident of the Library tax district (who may or may not be a Shenendehowa High School student), who will attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university.   Meet our 2009 Scholarship winners by clicking HERE.

If you are currently a member of the Friends of the Library, we sincerely thank you for your support.  If you are not a member, please join us in supporting our great library!  Membership applications are available on top of the chest of drawers in the lobby, on the FOL table located on the second floor or it may be downloaded to your computer by clicking HERE.  There are a number of levels of membership and a list of committes/activities that need your help.  We are always looking for library supporters who will contribute some of their valuable time and talent in support of the CPH Library.

Thanks for your interest in the Friends of the Library.

Sincerely,

Jo Anne Robbins

President Friends of the CPH Library
