St. Anne's Institute Community Service Project
St. Anne's Institute is an all girls facility which houses, teaches and councils
troubled teens from all over New York State. With our project we work to provide some fun events for the teens living at this facility.
In
March we hosted a Bingo and birthday party were we served cake and ice cream and played Bingo and gave out stuffed animals to all
participants.
In June we organized a BBQ for the girls. We served tossed salad, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, brownies, jello and provided
drinks. We played Bingo and gave out stuffed animals for prizes and a bag of candy for each participant.
On an October night, near
Halloween, we served cider and donuts at their movie night. There was a record-breaking 65 girls attending this function.
In December,
we hand-made Christmas stockings and purchased personal care items, photo albums, a bag of candy and a small stuffed animal to fill
the stockings. These were handed out to the girls who had to remain at the facility throughout the Holidays.
Adopt a Family
Over
the holidays, we adopt needy families in the community and provide a meal at Thanksgiving to a family and Christmas gifts and food
to a different family.
At Thanksgiving this year we provided a Thanksgiving meal and additional groceries for a Holiday dinner and
the following weekend to two families.
At Christmas we adopted two families with a total of eight children. We acquired their 'Santa
List' from the parents and members shopped for and wrapped gifts for the children. We also provided some groceries for the families.
Our
Club has donated to several local organizations that provide assistance to families in need.
We contributed to PROVIDE an organization
captained by a local church which provides funds to families needing temporary assistance with rent or mortgage, heating bills, transportation
expenses, etc.
Adopt-a-Roadside
Our Club has adopted a mile and a half long section of Grooms Road between Vischer Ferry Rd. and
Moe Road since 1992. We clean up this section of road twice each year. We general pick up 13 to 15 bags of trash.
Kids and Kindness
Our
Club provided Kind News to four public school teachers and their classes for 2004. Two of the teachers and their classes have been
'adopted' by our Club for 12 years now. The magazine is well received by the students and teaches subtle lessons on kindness
to our peers, animals and our earth.
Scholarship Program
Our Club has been participating in the Presidents Freedom Scholarship
since 2001. Each year we provide a $500.00 matching funds for this scholarship. The High School Staff selects the nominee after students
submit their applications and have 100 hours of volunteer service.
We have been awarding a Scholarship for Student with Special
Needs since May of 1999. This $250.00 scholarship is awarded to a graduating Senior 'Student with special needs' who will be going
on to further education.
Our regular Southern Saratoga County Woman's Club Scholarship is awarded each year to a student with
good academics who demonstrates financial need and has strong community service.
