They're Playing Our Song

Christine Marcella and Sev Moro

Spring of 2008 brought us the fun and romantic show, They're Playing Our Song, a somewhat biographical musical based on the relationship between songwriters Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager. Neil Simon's sharp wit and Hamlisch's toe tapping music shine with direction by Jennifer Depew, musical direction by Sherri Strichman and choreography by Donna Hatch.

Drew VanGendren, Bill Depew, Eric Hughes and Sev Moro

Special thanks to the very talented creative team that brought 1970's NYC to life- Producer/set builder Richard Lenehan, Set Designer Bob Farquharson, Make up designer Marcia Lenehan and Costumer Karen Boynton.

In Fall 2007, we celebrated the rich, masterful genius of song, Cole Porter in "Red, Hot and Cole" . Directed by Alan Angelo with musical direction from Vincent Bonafede, it was a swell party indeed! Audiences found themselves swaying to the music and singing along to the popular tunes including "I Love Paris", "Anything Goes", "Lets Misbehave" and "You're the Top".

Kudos to the hard working production team, including set designer Don Countermine, Costumer Karen Boynton, choreographers Bill Baetz, Sarah Nelson and Lori Koopman, the make-up team of Marcia Lenehan and Sheila Bouchard, hair designer Samantha Batease and AD Cindy Nagle.

The local theater world and NSCP have recently suffered the loss of two dear friends:

The stellar performer, director, critic, arts editor and generally fabulous individual, Doug de Lisle, peacefully left this world on February 1, 2008. He was 62 years young. We shall be eternally grateful to Doug for being a true supporter of the Not So Common Players over the years. He was the director of NSCP's very popular shows "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Little Mary Sunshine".

Troy Record article on Doug de Lisle

Colin McCarty, who played the baker in our summer production, "Into the Woods" died suddenly on February 6th, 2008. He would have celebrated his 50th birthday this April. Colin was a gifted thespian who has appeared in many productions around the capital district area. Both he and his partner, Tom Heckert, have been wonderful friends of NSCP. We will truly miss Colin's wit and amazing talent.
