Erie Canal at Vischer Ferry. Ca 1890
Erie Canal at Vischer Ferry, c. 1890. The canal bridge was at the end of Ferry Drive. Two boats in tow are being pulled by three mules. The Erie Canal was dug through Clifton Park in 1822 by local labor, and when it opened in 1825, it provided a water route from the Hudson River to the Great Lakes. Early settlers passed through town on their way west.
