Clifton Park Hotel, ca. 1910 Hotel, northeast corner of Old route 146 and Route 9, Clifton Park Village, c. 1910. The man with his feet up on the post is John Brenneisen, owner of the hotel. Ephraim Stevens built the hotel in the 1820s. This stop on the Waterford-Saratoga Turnpike was known as Stevens Corners until the 1850s, when it became known as Clifton Park Village. Ephraim Stevens was the first supervisor of Clifton Park in 1828. The hotel was a focal point for community activities, including dancing and roller skating. It served as courthouse and jail, and town board meetings were often held here. The Clifton Park-Halfmoon town line passes through the center of the hotel. Excerpts taken from the book "Images of America CLIFTON PARK' by John L. Scherer. This book, as well as John Scherer's new book coming out in April, are available the Town of Clifton Park's Office of Parks, Recreation, and Community Affairs. |
